When I started gathering information about Hattie McDaniel I couldn't come up with "just ONE" design that would cover all of her accomplishments.  I just kept thinking of new ideas and decided to do more than one design for this stamp issue.

Ended up with seven designs!  I think they turned out very well and I have several customers that have added all seven to their collections.

Purchase All Seven Together for $235.00

$35.00 Each if Purchased Separately

HMD-001 - Mammy - Gone With the Wind Poster Design (Available)
Mammy Poster
I took the basic design of a well known Gone With the Wind Poster that featured Scarlet and Bret gazing into one another's eyes... slightly rearranged it by replacing the two other stars with an illustration taken from a photo of Hattie dressed for the "Mammy" role.  I also snuck Mammy's silhoutte in just behind the other two stars in the poster design.

MammyWindow.jpg
HMD-002 - Mammy at the window of Tara (Available)

Mammy at the Window
An "Out-take" scene from Gone with the Wind.  One of many times in the film that Mammy stole the show!

beulah.jpg
HMD-003 - Hattie McDaniel as Beulah (Available)

Beulah

I couldn't leave out Hattie's television experience.  She stared in the Beulah role on Radio for several years before a short season on TV.  This was her last time in the spotlight before her death in 195_.  I tied both the late 40's Radio and early 50's Television set into the design... of course the picture on the TV was Black and White!

NewLeadWay.jpg
HMD-004 - Hattie McDaniel - Leading The Way (Available)

"Leading the Way"

For this design I wanted to express appreciation for all that Hattie contributed to her profession.  This made me think about how she was the FIRST black actor to receive the Oscar Award.  Several have followed in her footsteps - I have included three that you may recognize.

HMD-005 - Hattie McDaniel - Recognition (Available)

Hattie McDaniel - "Recognition"

With this design I tried to illustrate the many tributes that have been made to this fine actress.  Including her Oscar, TWO Hollywood Stars - One for Film, One for Radio, and the Memorial stone her family had placed near her final resting place.  I used a photo to draw her image from that was one of the least flattering of the ones available... but there just aren't that many to choose from.

HattieTara.jpg
HMD-006 - Hattie McDaniel and "Tara" (Available)

Hattie McDaniel and "Tara"

Here I used one of my favorite photos of Hattie in "Civilian Cloths".  Along with a nice backdrop featuring the famous house "Tara" from Gone With the Wind.

ListenMammy.jpg
HMD-007 - "Listen to Mammy!" (Available)

Listen to Mammy!

This design came as a suggestion from one of my customers who had bought all five of the preceeding designs.  He had a great idea and I'm really happy that it's now included in the Hattie Set of seven.  Of course Scarlet didn't ever listen to Mammy and stayed in trouble for a lot of the movie!
